Tamiya 1/48 Messerschmitt Me 262A-1a (61087)
I tried to build one of the Hobby Boss Me 262 kits, and it ended up FUBAR, so I grabbed this kit from the stash. It did not go together quite as easily as most Tamiya kits, partially because the Me 262 itself was rather complex. As you can tell by the photos, I did not get the cowling over the guns to fit correctly - it was too wide. On the other hand, the canopy was too narrow. So apparently I got the front of the fuselage too close together and the fuselage around the cockpit not close enough.
As with the Fw 190D-9, I primed with Dupli-Color White primer. The RLM 76 on the bottom was my usual mix of XF-23:1 and XF-2:1. The top was XF-54 for the RLM 75 and Tamiya's recommended mix of XF-24:3 and XF-27:2 for the RLM 74. I gloss coated with Quick Shine. The decals came from the kit. The post-decal gloss coat was Krylon Gloss Acrylic Crystal Clear - I was getting lazy at that point.
I started to make my own mask for the canopy, but got impatient and just went with the EZ mask for the windscreen. I masked the canopy and rear section manually by putting down masking tape, using a toothpick to press the tape into the part where the frame meets the canopy, and then using a razor blade to cut the tape.
